Okay, I finished Fruits Basket several weeks ago, but something's been bugging me about it ever since. spoiler[In the next-to-last (or was it last?) episode, there's a scene where Hanajima & Uotani happen upon Tohru laying at her mother's grave, and when Uotani goes to help her, Hana proceeds to freak out and shout about how neither she nor Uotani can touch Tohru. Now, Hanajima is one of my favourite characters in Fruits Basket, so you can see where this would bug me...what the hell is happening here?]

I don't know for sure, but my impression was this:
spoiler[Since we all know Hana has those psychic powers, I believe that Tohru's mother's spirit was making contact with her, and telling her that Tohru needed to confront this on her own, and that if they helped her now, Tohru wouldn't become as strong, nor would she perhaps ever confronted Kyo.] |

spoiler[Yeah, I figured that it probably had something to do with the fact that Hana & Uo had always been there to help Tohru out, and somehow Hana came to the conclusion that this was something they couldn't help her with. Still, the way she reacted was a little odd (even for her
