I've gotten quite a few of those "Thank you for being a fan" goodies when I've opened boxes from TRSI. From anything as simple as a post card, to film cels, to the occasional DVD volume from series like Rumbling Hearts or Blue Gender [*edit] and others I'm forgetting. So whenever I get a new package from them now, if there's an extra, I'm still happy to get free stuff but its never surprising.

I've recently started trying to actually catch up to some of my unwatched unopened DVDs and the latest one I thought I'd check out brought an unexpected surprise just like those. I took off the shrink wrap and removed the security tape from volume one of Kirameki Project, opened the case and out falls a promotional Voltron Defender of the Universe DVD.

It's not the best bonus I've ever gotten, actually I've never been a Voltron fan, but it was still a nice surprise to get something free especially in one of the most unexpected places. I mean I think I bought the DVD along with the second volume for something like $18 total on a sale at some point that I don't even remember. Weirder still, after watching the show its hard to figure how they'd throw in a Voltron disk in with this show. Aside from giant robots the two shows have nothing in common.

But still, it sort of makes me want to go through all my unopened DVDs, especially the Media Blasters ones, to see if I find anything else.

Has anyone else found unexpected and unlisted goodies inside DVD cases? Maybe it's a common thing and I've just never gotten one before.

I've got some sampler discs before in dvds- and when I opened my first package from Rightstuf there was an ad card for Slayers.

But to the extent at which you're talking? Not really if ever.

My first couple orders came with a little promo flyer of some sort (I recall getting several Black Cat bookmarks...). but that's it. And I haven't gotten any in months.

TRSI always sends me the same Hellsing Ultimate/Paradise Kiss and Black Cat postcards. I think they sent me one promotional disc before but it was loose in the package.

I've never gotten any sort of 'freebie' like that from an actual DVD- and I bought Kirameki Project, too- lucky shumuck! Laughing

I've gotten the goodie-gauntlet from Rightstuf too- art cards mostly, some samplers (I think I got a good 12-15 copies of the Samurai 7 sampler), a few pulled-from-old-dvd things (like the character guide booklet from X.) A total of 3 actual DVDs, all Funi- Negima vol. 1, Gunslinger Girl vol. 1, Lupin the 3rd movie 8- Crisis in Tokyo.

The best goodies are usually from Funimation, who come up with some neat stuff- not all this from from TRSI, but I've got Peach Girl nail files, Beck Guitar picks, and seed packets from Origin (Sensitive Plant- it collapses when moved/touched. Neat stuff, I really need to open a pack and grow some.)

The strangest was a few years ago, I got a special mailer from Media blasters, containing a Catalog disc and a flyer for a clearance sale- a whole bunch of $2 VHS and $4/$8 DVDs. (I bought stocking stuffers. Very Happy )

I've purchased a fair number of anime DVDs (not as many as some here, but still...) and I've never found anything inside the DVD case that wasn't prominently advertised as an extra on the outside of the case. It sounds like something that would have been done by the manufacturer and not TRSI.

From TRSI I've received a few small freebies. I got a Funi sampler disc and I always get those little post cards, but I consider those to be more advertising than anything else. Still, I like getting them. I also got a calendar one time from some series I had never even heard of. It came in an order I placed in April so I guess they were just giving them out to people to get rid of them since the year was already 1/4 of the way over.

TRSI has given me:
A full copy of Moonphase 1 in a plain white envelope.
2 Cheesy Kyo Kara Maoh slides (are these the film cels mentioned above?)
A Strawberry Marshmallow calendar.
2 Cowboy Bebop phone straps.
13 (I kid you not) copies of the Samurai 7 sampler.
A couple Anime Works promo DVDs (the one with the red eyes on the DVD)

I'm sure there are other things that TRSI has given me that I'm forgetting at the moment, but this is a short list of what I can see sitting on my chair at the moment.

I really wish those BECK guitar picks were better secured. I've yet to get a volume with the pick actually stuck to that little white square which I believe is what it is supposed to affixed to. I have had to peel a couple of them of the actual DVD. The worst is when those little security tabs come loose from the case and get stuck to the DVD. That actually happened to me today (as well as a few other times) on my Blu copy of Dog Day Afternoon.

Very Happy Hey at least you picked up a very decent OAV even if you didn't get an extra in the case. Kirameki Project has turned out to be quite a fun show, I wish it were longer. I'm gonna have to thank Key sometime, it was a comment he made in one of the forums that made me look into the show in the first place. (Interesting that I can remember what made me want to buy the show but not when or where I bought it Confused . I think it was at Anime Corner Store though. )

I love Funimation goodies! I love buying their artboxes early, not only because they sell out quickly on the more popular series, but because they sometimes have some really neat stuff. I knew I entered full fledged otakudom when I realized how excited I was to finally fill up my MoonPhase postcard album.

Oh, I would've totally taken advantage of that too. I'm gonna have to get myself on the Media Blasters mailing list.

Yeah, I think it was from Media Blasters. I don't remember where I bought the disks but it wasn't at TRSI. I know because I did a search on my archived orders with them and it was listed anywhere.

I don't keep those postcards/ads but they're nice to get. I know I've gotten tons of those Parandise Kiss and the Black Cat ones too.

Yeah, those storyboard books are included in all the Samurai 7 Limited Editions. They are pretty neat too, although I've only opened the one in my 2nd volume one.

Is that what they are? I got one of the Kyo Kara Maoh, I actually didn't know what the heck that show was when I got that one, But I've also gotten a coupe form another series I don't recognize. I've lost all three of them already.

I'm on the reverse of this, well not completely you buy a lot more than I do, I got one Samurai 7 sampler, which I either gave away or lost, and 6 Strawberry Marshmallow calendars. I actually used one on my desk at work and got quite a few weird looks for. And a bunch of other stuff too, but that Voltron DVD was the first unlisted bonus I've ever gotten inside a DVD case for a show.

This is starting to sound like a really rare occurrence. I usually give away all these bonus disks, but I might actually keep this one.

I don't know if this counts or not, but the Infinite Ryvius individual DVD volumes came with pencil boards.
