We have all seen single episodes of Anime that feel like so much more than just a piece of a greater 'whole'.

My nomination for single greatest EPISODE of Anime is:

Episode 1 of Saikano (SHE). It starts like any ordinary highschool romance; cute, funny and interesting. And by the end of the episode, the end of the world is looming on the horizon and the female main character, Chise, ends the episode how she began it with, "Gomenne (I'm sorry)".

At the conclusion of this episode my jaw was hanging low and I felt that I had just witnessed my own death. It was great! Anime exclamation

Goosebumps effect:

Onegai Teacher ep13
Strawberry Eggs ep 13
Fruits Basket ep 26
Hunter X Hunter - ep42 Hisoka vs. Gon Anime smile...tight! (best single ep so far for me)
Ayashi No Ceres ep 26 -

Saikano is tight. No question about that. But can someone explain the ending ?

This is really hard to pick, but one episode of Kenshin that was great to me was one Yahiko defeated the bat guy (I'm bad with names) by stealing one of Kenshin's moves. To see Yahiko finnally defeat a major enemy by himself, was second only to Kenshin's battle with Shishio in excitement. I still get excited thinking about that episode. To me it was a great moment not just because he defeated the enemy, but that it was the final step of manhood for him. From that point onward, he can no longer be called *shudders in remembrance of the dub* "little Yahiko*. Just a great moment in anime for me.

Episode 05. "Ballad of Fallen Angels" of Cowboy Bebop had that effect on me. spoiler[ The scene where Spike is fighting Vicious and falls out of the stained glass window and then that beautiful music begins. ] Until I saw that scene I didn't really know what to make of CB but after that I fell in love with the show.

I had the same feeling in Giant Robo many times because of its beautiful mix of music and visuals, but in Giant Robo this happened several times in every episode.

In Neon Genesis I really love the fight between Shinji and Zeruel, which is my favourite angel because it kicks so much ass. I also very much love the sequence in episode 12. "The Value of a Miracle Is..." spoiler[ where the three Eva's catch the falling the angel.] Also here we whiteness a perfect blend of music and visuals.

IMHO The first episode of Full Metal Panic was a master piece, after seeing it I was hooked on the series. Come on what other anime starts of with so much action and charecter development.

I think there are many impressive and heartwretching scenes in TOP O NERAE aka GunBuster OVAs. But, my favorite one is from OVA #4, when spoiler[Noriko is forced to stay behind and is not allowed to participate in the battle against the alien forces. Alone, she contemplates her uncertain purpose and becomes engulfed in sadness by the death of her partner Smith. However, despite her incredible grief, Noriko makes a sacred vow to herself to change, then and there. She finds the inner strength and courage to truly face her failures. IMO it is at this crucial moment in the series, Noriko becomes truly magnificent. She is literally reborn and decides to pilot the incomplete Gunbuster and attack the alien forces. ] What happens next I will not go into it. I leave this enjoyable experience up to you and encourage you to watch perhaps for the first time, this remarkable series by Gainax. For those of you who have seen GunBuster, but not in a long time, I suggest you take a moment and dust off that well rested copy and relive a classic series! Wink

The best episode in my opinion was the episode of Cowboy Bebop, "Toys In The Attic". spoiler[That little blob thing went around, and poisons the entire Bebop crew, save for Ed, and she just grabs it and eats it. How's that for funny?]
