I just received word that Gunbuster is no longer available on Manga Entertainment's online catalog. It looks like Manga may have completely lost the rights to the series, much like they did with Giant Robo.

Any ideas on who'll pick up Gunbuster for R1 DVD release?

Wow, another Gunbuster fan, they're so rare nowadays Very Happy . It would be pretty sad for Manga to lose not one but two of their best titles, but they never did much with the title any way. They never even fixed the subs on the first two episodes I'm told. Basically, as long as ADV doesn't get it(they already have most of the great mecha shows), I'll be happy. Maybe Animeigo could be interested, they could give it the Macross treatment(minus the film lines of course). Maybe Bandai, who knows. Now if only Manga would lose the rights to Dangaio. Its not a great show, but it didn't deserve to be butchered like it was.

Are you kidding me? I loved Dangiao! sure it didn't have a complex storyline as Gunbuster, but it was a kick ass OVA. Almost like the Fantastic Four meets Voltron..or something of that ilk. Irefuse to buy Manga entertainment's english only dubbing.

(The ending however sucked and the new version of Dangiao isn't much to smile about.)

God bless the days of the OVAs Very Happy

Fortunately, the music/FX track for Gunbuster is long gone, making sure that no one can dub it.[/code]

I'm sure there are a lot of Gunbuster fans out there, like me! Here's to getting a decent R1 release, and here's to hoping the sequel is as outstanding as the original!

Wasn't there some talk of a *new* Gunbuster series some time ago? Whatever happened to that?

That's what I mean by saying it wasn't "great". I kiled it a lot, but it left a lot to be desired sadly. I mean, what with mecha designs by both Kawamori AND Ohata, its not all bad. I'm not dissing it. I haven't seen Great Dangaio yet. Oh, and Manga's dub only version was the least of its problems. Try the 30 or so minutes they cut from it.

That's ok, trust me i'm not some rabid fanboy who will get upset just because someone may not think highly of Anime that's among my favorites. Cool to each his/her own. But IMHO Dangiao along with Guyver,Black Magic M-66,Appleseed etc. refueled my Anine enthusiasm. I had the "pleasure" of renting the first volume of Great Dangiao, thinking that the story would conclude from the original's open ending, but to my dismay, there was no real correlation between the two series as far as i can remember. It was practically a remake. Evil or Very Mad

But to be fair i didn't bother to rent the remaining volumes, thus i can't really speculate if the story arc shifted to Dangiao's original roots.

As for Aim for the top Gunbuster,It looks like manga ent, dropped the ball on this one. I'm surprised since Manga has Accquired alot of the OVAs that were first released by US Renditions. (I.E. Guyver,Appleseed,Dangiao and a host of others.) maybe ADV will pick it up or even Media Blasters.

I certainly hope Manga Entertainment lost the rights to GunBuster OVAs! I hope another company (like AnimEigo) will pick this classic title up and give it the well-deserved royal treatment. Overall, I am not a fan of what Manga has done with some of their better titles, like GunBuster OVAs, Dangaioh OVAs, Guyver OVAs, Macross Plus OVAs, and Orguss 02 OVAs. As the_soultaker mentioned and I too have mentioned previously in older posts animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=51105#51105 ,Manga completely butched Dangaioh and supremely edited it into a piece of crap, half of the original content was removed! WTF?! This company deserves to lose the rights to some great anime titles and their customer service through their website is horrible. Lastly, if you are interested in updated information on the rumored new GunBuster series, visit Yahoo Groups and search for GunBuster. I am over there and so are a bunch of older fans like David Gaxiola. We discuss the OVA series, cels, merchandise and updates.
