I'm trying to get my mom into anime. So I asked her which type of anime she would like to watch or read. She said horror, romantic, or something set in the 1600's I have a few animes in mind, but I wanted to know if any or you had any good ones. so please tell me all of them your thinking of, Thanks.

How much violence can your mom tolerate? If she can tolerate quite a bit of blood I'd recommend "Vampire Hunter D". It has both horror and romance in it.
But a suggestion: beware of any box that says "abolutely not for children". I made that mistake when I rented "Nightmare Campus: The Movie" the other night and didn't realize it was a hentai until after me and my fiance started watching it. I found myself fast forwarding through most of the film just to get to the parts pertaining to the story.

For horror, send Vampire Princess Miyu her way^_^.
Romance, I must shamelessly plug my favorite(well, second favorite) series. Show her Fushigi Yuugi! Romance, along with fantasy, ancient China, bishounen, and, of course, NURIKO! *hugs her Nuri-chan*
Don't know any set in the 1600's...

Ninja Scroll the movie might work, but it depends on how tolerant she is of extreme graphic violence, sex, rape, and nudity.
It's set in... was it 1500s or 1600s Japan? Well, somewhere around there. A good medieval Japanese setting. Although most of the movie is action, there's a little romance between the two main characters towards the end.
If she doesn't mind something a little more 90s, definately get Kare Kano.
And as Nuriko-chan said, Fushigi Yuugi is probably the best choice. Although I'm afraid your mother might not get the same emotion through that dub...

1600s.. where?
1600s Japan? Europe? America?
Is she referring to 17th century ideologies, or technology, culture, or some sort of blend?
Or does it just need to be set between 1600-1699 (and, if that's the case, then by whose calendar?) :)

I think any woman would love Inu-Yasha, but berserk (violent medieval).

I recomend you Rurouni Kenshin: Reminiscence (Trust & Betrayal).
It's a grat anime and has romance also.
However it's set in the 1800 era, but it has a medieval feel (the 1800 setting in Japan was completely different to the setting in the occident in the same time)

I remember when I introduced my mother to anime, her first series was Love Hina
Then: FLCL, Onegai Sensei, Great Teacher Onizuka, Naruto, Hellsing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop
We're still watching Naruto as it comes out, and other series while we wait for more Naruto.
I tried having her watch Azu Manga Daioh and Happy Lesson, but she didn't like them, so we didn't watch them, only the first episodes.
I plan on showing her these soon, after we're done with Cowboy Bebop (we just started a while ago, and on episode 4 now): Boogiepop Phantom and Initial D
