I just finished up to episode 9 and I like the series very much. If this is any indication, I was supposed to start on Rahxephon last night, but decided to test the Gokusen discs for defects. Watched a bit of episode 1 and ended up marathoning 9 episodes non-stop (4 left). It's quite addictive.
Comments (no spoilers, don't worry):
The story kinda resembles Great Teacher Onizuka. The character design kinda gets me down. It resembles One Piece and Initial D, except not as bad (yes, I think the character designs in One Piece suck). Animation quality though, is very good. Some bits of CGI here and there, like wafting cigarette smoke, etc.
Great sounding opening theme too, "Hontou no Kotoba" by Foot Stamp.
Well, I won't say anymore.
BTW, thank god for the English subtitles, I was able to breeze through 9 episodes. If it was Chinese subtitles, I'd probably be stuck on episode 4, having to watch each episode repeatedly to catch what it was about.

Yeah maybe One Piece character is kinda goofy looking but it's not that bad, the design is very original and I don't think there's any mangaka that could create a character like that.

I reccomend the drama of Gokusen more starring Nakama Yukie who played Sadako from Ringu 0. It's a lot better than the anime and the GTO drama.

That was just my opinion though. Didn't mean to slam One Piece.

Ah, my wife would be interested. She loves J-drama, but not me.

Sorry, I thought Gokusen was a bit more realistic. Plus, I think Nakama Yukie is 10x mre hotter than Natsushima Nanako (who also happened to be in the first 2 Ringu movies). I thought the cast in GTO compared to Gokusen was one dimensional and there was more to work with in the Gokusen drama.
I was surprised the Gokusen drama had more action than GTO's.

BETTER THAN GTO? NO WAY.
Gokusen the anime was silly enough with the (talking?) dog. But no talking dog in the live action?
Nakama Yukie does not look better than Natsushima Nanako, the glasses and small eyes are a total turn off. More action but less comedy. It's good but it's probably not even better than You're Under Arrest which has action, comedy, drama and mariah carey ending theme song. I've seen tons of asian flick and "Azumi" has the hottest japanese actress ever.

What's with this "talking dog" thing? He doesn't talk! Period! He thinks, and we "hear" what he's thinking, that's it. Sure he walks around on his hind legs, smokes and drinks. But I think he's not a distraction at all.
Overall, I like Gokusen more than GTO. I just feel that the series is a little too short, the last 2 episodes a little too rushed, and I'd like to see Shin develop a schoolboy-teacher crush on Yankumi which was hinted at in the final episodes. That would make it interesting.

I see you haven't seen Nakama Yukie in anything other than Gokusen. Trust me, she was made to look dorky in that role. She's a helluva lot hotter than what she is in that show. I like Nanako Matsushima too so nothing against her. No, there is no talking dog in the LA.

I agree. Check out her other J-drama Trick, which is more popular than the Gokusen drama.

in the live action at the end, shin does admit to having one

Oooh! Really?! Interesting! And what happens then between Yankumi and that lawyer guy (the name's Shinohara?)?

Spoiler:Shinohara is a cop. Also, in the special TV movie, he asks her out and she gleefully agrees, but that's about it. After that she goes to teach a new class.
