while Tatsunoko had their own in-house CG resources, they weren't up to the task of making something, well, lustrous enough to suit heroes like Hurricane Polymar and Gatchaman.

Based on their work on the Transformers Prime Wars Trilogy, you could've ended the sentence after "something."

featuring Patlabor Next Generation director Takanori Tsujimoto.

Do you know if he has any relation to the Tsujimoto family that runs Capcom? I remember reading he was one of the CEO's sons, but I can't find anything to support that now.

This article is straight up deja vu. I was looking up Jinnai's Animation studio last night after I saw TMS augmented to its name on Appleseed XIII, I wasn't sure if TMS bought them after the fact or if it was always a TMS/Sega subsidiary, so I dug a little more to no avail. Well during my research of TMS' group companies, Marx shows up. I had no clue they did a RE movie, and the fact that they're doing a 3DGG Sonic movie makes complete sense considering their affiliation.

there's an amazing battle at the end between Chris and the final boss Arias where you can just tell that the director was like, “Man, what if these two dudes were so good at close combat that even though they tried to shoot each other from 10 feet away, they just couldn't do it?!”

When these two fought pre-final battle I was thinking "what is this nonsense, just shoot someone already" Then i don't know when but as i was watching it, it when from stupid to cool. Like its still abusrd that they couldn't just freaking hit one other with a bullet... but it was hella entertaining. And if a director is good enough to make me forget the silliness of not being able to just shoot the other character through mesmerizing choreography then that is nothing but a plus. I can only imagine that if we could have ever gotten a full length MGS movie (their cutscenes are close) it would be as fun to watch as this.
Seriously one of them should have shot the other though.

I haven't seen the first two, but seeing Vendetta in theaters was a treat as I finally got to see a RE movie on the big screen that didn't feel like I was being given the middle finger. I hate the live-action movies (well, the first one is average), they're nothing but fanfiction with an OP Mary Sue original character that turns the canon characters into barely being competent (except for Wesker but even he couldn't ultimately leave the film series with dignity) just so Alice, a character that JUST HAPPENS to be played by the series director's girlfriend and later wife, can do everything cool and the entire narrative ends up revolving around her. They would be my most disliked video game adaptations but Silent Hill Revelations exists (I like the first one despite some flaws, but the second film is my least favorite adaptation of anything period).

That being said, I wish they had given Rebecca more to do in Vendetta. My third favorite RE character (after Barry and Leon) and she spends half of the movie captured, ugh.

I found out that they were still making these because of the extras and making of things included with the Kingsglaive movie that came with Final Fantasy XV.

Silly as they are, I love the live-action Resident Evil movies, and am glad that awesome series managed to round out to an actual conclusion, the last one staying true to its "Final Chapter" title (which rarely happens, so absolutely give the people involved credit for that much). I've heard news of the reboot, but reboots don't count as the same continuity (that's like calling Batman Vs. Superman a sequel to the Dark Knight trilogy).

I've never played the games and am not a gamer, so these CG movies are the closest thing I have in watching a Resident Evil that's closest to the source material. They're definitely awesome in their own right, and Damnation is easily my favorite for being more standalone as well as entertainingly wild and crazy. According to what I looked up, you can get the 3D-version of Damnation from Japan, which come with both English subs/dubs, so I find it curious why Sony didn't give that one an American release.

It was good to see Orange putting in such inspired work on Land of the Lustrous and fans heralding a long-awaited breakthrough for 3DCG anime
I hope not, I love how Anime fans have fought against 3DCG Anime. I really hope the industry just gives up it. Orange can return to providing CG for other shows.

I'm cool with anime that are entirely CGI, it's just when it's mixed with 2D animation that I find it jarring. It's like if a part of a painting was done in pen instead; neither media are bad, it just doesn't fit. A CGI mecha in the background of 2D characters talking will never not seem out of place to me. When they try REALLY hard to make the 3D look 2D though, even in an all CGI production, it can also be a little distracting because it's trying to look like something it isn't. I'd almost rather it just embrace a different art style all together. I'd watch a movie that looks like Final Fantasy 15 or Okami.

Can't speak for the quality of CGI in the RE movies myself, but I have been meaning to play the games for a while now; I might also try to watch the movies after reading this.
