I for one am happy and would love to see another BLEACH movie. If Tokyo Ghoul got one, I think this movie should get one too.

I signed up to Netflix just so I could see it and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I'm not usually a fan of live action adaptations but considering the time restraints and the amount of the main story and characters they fit into this I thought it was a really good job.

Just to update from the review given, it is English dubbed on Netflix. So glad Johnny Yong Bosch has returned as Ichigo and Derek Stephen Prince as Uryuu. Apparently Michelle Ruff wasn't even approached to voice Rukia which is really baffling as well as disappointing.

I have to agree about the Renji character, all that sneering and face pulling, totally over the top and not needed. Miyavi was excellent as Byakuya and I'm only sorry that they didn't get Dan Woren to come back to voice him. Miyavi was cold and merciless and I really hope there's a sequel so we see him in the next one.

Overall I'd give it 8 out of 10, good music, condensed but good storyline. It stays true to the concept of Bleach and that's what I hope they'll do in the future.

I was really impressed with this film. It’s still not perfect, many of the problems brought up in the review do stand and hamper the film, but it was a real blast to watch. Their decisions in merging the spoiler[ Uryuu, Grand Fisher and Byakuya intros] together was phenomenal and really did work to the story’s betterment.

I also really appreciate how many little nods to longtime fans there were in the film. Even though they knew they were going to be going a somewhat different direction. Overall, this has been one of the better anime to live action adaptations, though not quite on the same level as the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, and I’d definitely be up for more to this take on the Bleach story (although, I’d just be glad with more Tite Kubo related stuff, Bleach was my favourite of the Big 3 back in their heyday).

That is indeed odd. Rukia, Byakuya, Chad, Renji, and Isshin don't have their original dub voices for this live performance. A shame they couldn't get in touch with them.

I liked the film. The characterization of Ichigo (despite being kind of different) and Rukia was well executed with their training being one of the best parts. However, I felt it had wasted potential due to the fights against the Hollow where Uryu gets the shaft horribly. He was supposed to be Ichigo's rival but the guys changed him a lot (especially with what Renji did). Then it got worse with Chad and Orihime who barely had characterization other than realizing stuff. Hope the sequel gives the supporting cast more screentime or a role to do.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of the suck.

Yeah, Renji was weak. Reminded me of Ryosuke Yamada in the FMA movie. Just laughably over the top.

I stopped being a Bleach fan a long time ago, so it was nice to see a well-done adaptation of the source material from during its prime. And with Shinsuke Sato at the helm, there was little to no doubt of the solid entertainment it would deliver anyway!

I don't know about the others but Michelle wasn't even asked and she said she would have been happy to do it if they'd requested her but they didn't bother.

I had high hopes for the movie since seeing the trailer, and the movie as a whole did not disappoint. I have to disagree about Renji, he seems to fit the character quite well. The movie had the bleach vibe, minus some of the music.

Anyone else agree with me that they did a phenomenal job of the end with Rukia saying her goodbyes?

Really hoping for a second movie, the small shot of Soul Society really has me excited for some more content!

Both Patrick Seitz (Isshin) & Wally Wingert (Renji) confirmed on Twitter that they weren't contacted either.

The worse thing about the situation is that this dub was done at the same studio as the anime (Studiopolis) and directed by the owner of said studio so this is really messed up, especially in Michelle's case since this wasn't exactly a minor role that can be easily be ignored.

It’s likely that the client, i.e., Netflix, asked for different actors for those parts. I doubt Jamie Simone would go out of his way to replace people he’s worked with forever like this.

I figured they went with VA's who they felt better fit the live-action actors' portrayal, but it is kind of jarring to not even contact some of the original VA's if you were already going to bring in a lot of the original cast anyways.

Michelle seemed to take being replaced as Rukia pretty hard.

Perhaps further evidence that Netflix should not dabble in licensing anime-related properties outside of streaming rights (don't get me started on the binge-upload practices). If Viz Media licensed the live-action movie from the start, I would think they would have gotten most of the Eng. dub cast for the anime back for the live-action version.

Really, the only company big American media company I would trust for licensing anime-related properties would Walt Disney Pictures considering their success with the Studio Ghibli films.

I was pleasantly surprised. The trailers didn't look as terrible as some of the other JP live action anime adaptations I've seen and the final movie ended up being as good as I'd hoped from the trailer. I actually don't like the anime Bleach until Rukia leaves but I enjoyed this movie even though it's the same content.

Some things were changed but I was ok with that. Nothing seemed out of place to me for the world the movie setup. Having said that, I really don't mind a bunch of different takes on stuff, especially when it crosses mediums. My favorite Harry Potter film is the one that changed things the most from the books (Prisoner of Azkaban) and I super love that there are two FMA anime that are way different stories.

I've only seen Bleach subbed so I'm not the best example, but I'm not too shocked that they changed the VA for the movie. If it was an animated movie I would be really surprised though. I think that an actor's vocal performance and their voice period are a major part of who they are as an actor. I know that it's the same characters, but maybe the voices didn't match up with the actors and actresses that well and there was an extra disconnect? For all we know, they may have done some rough testing around the office, and for certain characters, the anime VA were liked by most people but for others, there was a hard split where if you like the anime dub then you loved the VA but if you'd never heard the anime dub, you just noted that the voices seemed off for the actors/actresses on screen.

After all, some people did reprise their roles. It's not like they were unaware. There may have been legit reasons as opposed to Netflix being stupid or negligent.
