I thought 5 picked up from the last volume. Not just on the story, but the dub sounded a little off in that volume, too. Everything seems solid now.

Oh, and I liked new theme

The new OP theme reminded me of "Last Stage" music from old video games, in keeping with the general intent behind the music of the series. I'll agree it's not as catchy or high-energy as the first two themes, though. PPD episodes definitely do take longer to watch than episodes of other series, if you're like me and you want to read all the notes, sign translations of chalkboard text, and listen to the actual dialogue. To save some time, I've watched these discs in English first, which is fairly rare -- usually in starting new series I'll watch the Japanese track first, but for PPD I decided it'd be more efficient to use audio processing for dialogue and visual processing for the notes, chalkboard stuff, and other signs. And I never saw the fansubs for this one, either. I'm not sure how faithful the dub is, because it would just be overload to watch it in English with the main subtitles and all the other information flying across the screen. But evaluated on its own, I like the dub, especially Brittney Karbowski and Hilary Haag's performances.

Its flaunting of the usual rules of comedy manages to keep things relatively fresh. And it rewards those who've stood by it this long with a small emotional payoff and even a little backstory.
Not to be a nitpicker, but I think "flouting" is meant here:

I'm glad to see that vol 5 got a mostly positive review. The 4th one was disappointing to me, and I was fearing that the show was endanger of going downhill after that, but this one picked it back up and gave me the same bizarre fun that the first two volumes did. However, I must correct this review on one point:

However, the standout performance is still Mesousa.

I beleive the reviewer meant to type Becky Twisted Evil

I think it was in this batch of episodes that I finally got to see the alien's Hazuki figure. I was a bit dissappointed that Mesousa seems less involved in these later episodes--though with a cast that big, where some secondary charaters seem to get as much screentime as the main cast, I think no matter who your favorites are you still won't see enough of them. I'll have to re-watch the whole series with the Notes turned on. Although I'm probably not getting more than 90% of the references-- I think it's similar to watching something like ROBOT CHICKEN without knowing a lot of American movies, tv shows and celebrities--I'm still finding it extremely funny.

"Sukeban Deka". The TV show. Not the anime. There's a pretty good write-up on the three TV series on this web site: http://www.idollica.com/. Scroll down the side bar to find the link to the Sukeban Deka mini-website.

The obscure tip of the hat I really liked finally makes it to R1 release: the rejected(sic) rubber stamps on Serizawa's "performance" as Becky are lifted from the movie Warai No Daigaku.
