one which leads to editors getting portrayed as villains in most manga about the manga industry, something that makes Saito “sad.”

Quote:
His most extreme story of trying to make a deadline involved Hideaki Soraichi working on a chapter of Gin Tama. “[Soraichi] was so late on deadlines every week. There's one particular time we had to head to the printers with the manuscript, and there's still one completely blank page. At the time, it took about a 30-minute taxi ride to get from the creator's residence to the printer… in the back of the taxi, he drew the blank page. The heroic role I had was to make sure the ink bottle didn't tip over and spill on that blank page.”

On the upside, editors appearing in manga/anime/LNs/etc. are unfailingly hilarious. I fondly remember Sorachi's struggles, to the point where Gintama had to jump magazines twice.

This is why I love behind-the-scenes stories. It humanizes a lot.

There were older stories of some people who became editor and really disliked the job, so I imagine in those scenarios a mutual dislike would have developed between mangaka and editor. However I'd like to think most editors get along with the people they are hired to assist. Some of those stories were not always in Jump, but some were.

I wanted to go to this panel, but the night before I played some Arzette The Jewel of Faramore on PS4 and was up to what I think was the next to the last boss. Took way too long to beat the guy and wound up sleeping late. Woke up late the next day! By the time I made it to this panel, about 17 minutes late the room was full so couldn't get in!

So anyway, thanks for the recap! The same thing used to happen to me at conventions when I was younger, would show up late to whatever the morning show was. It was from going to after parties though and I no longer have the energy for that most of the time! Anime smile;

Pretty cool how he put new and upcoming characters on the covers. It used to kill me that Wizard Magazine would put Spider-Man, Batman, Spawn or another major character on their covers every single month. I used to think that with 12 issues a year it would be nice if they featured indie titles on the cover once in a while.

Editors often get a bad rap but they're often the unsung heroes of the industry.
