If someone said that to my face I'd slap their eyebrows off. Before reading this I knew nothing about A Dark Rabbit Has Nine Lives, but I was sort of interested in it because of the title. Now reality has thwarted my ambitions once again. |

That Rabbit one sounds like stereotypical Otaku Bait.
As such, it is the most interesting of the shows you reviewed to me. |

I know times are tough, but I was really disappointed with the Limited Edition packaging for Rideback. Just like the keychain, the only thing on the side of the box is the logo. In fact, that's pretty much what Funimation has done with all of their Limited Edition releases this year, save Sacred Blacksmith, which has a slim picture of Cecily on the spine. Granted the titles on the spines are in a pretty font that matches the series, but still... I love art boxes that look like, well art. I wish Funimation had more art boxes with pictures on the spine like they did with Hell Girl, Gunslinger Girls, Mushishi, Kodocha,Shuffle, Rumbling Hearts, etc. I DO appreciate that they still give collectors the option of purchasing an art box, but I would LOVE that little extra detail. |

Good to know I'm not missing anything with Dark Rabbit blah blah. I only watched to the part where that douche pretty boy verbally degrades the girls and they all cream themselves over it. Meh. I'll stick with Yuru Yuri

I've had people say that regarding not just TV shows, but video games and comic books too. It's not good to pigeonhole your own favorite storytelling medium as low art. If everyone had that attitude, then there'd be no progress done in the sort of stories you can tell with them. |

That's particularly true with video games. They have a (not entirely undeserved) reputation as being an inferior story-telling medium, and the sad part is that a lot of gamers don't seem to care. Also I forgot to mention this in my last post but Guin Saga has super pretty box art. Does the show itself look that good. |

Yu Yu Hakusho: I've seen the first two DVD season sets that FUNimation released. I think I have to agree with Erin that all the original manga creator had were a group of characters and a basic idea when he started, and then started following reader polls or something to determine the direction of the story. I found the original premise of the series interesting, especially with the lead character dying at the beginning of the first episode. However, by the time you reach the Dark Tournament arc, the series basically degenerated into a basic "shonen fighting series." I'll probably eventually get around to watching the remaining episodes, but by the end of the second DVD box set, I really wasn't in any hurry to continue due to my disappointment.
Rideback: I saw the first episode of this series when it was available for free viewing in the FUNimation section of Comcast's ON DEMAND service. I thought the combination of a ballet dancer and mecha was odd, yet different. However, by the end of the first episode, I didn't motivate me to go out and purchase the box set. I'll keep an eye out at my local library system to see if they purchase any copies of the box set, because I'd be willing to check it out through the library to see how the story continues. |

On the other hand, there's a reasonable argument to be made that not everything has to be "a story." Complaining that Dark Rabbit has an incredibly dumb story is like complaining that a cupcake isn't healthy. It's not really the point. I remember Legend of the Legendary Heroes got complaints for being so incredibly generic in setting, but that just meant they didn't have to spend any time on world-building. "All right, we're in generic fantasy setting. All caught up? Good, let's go with the plot." I liked the first few episodes of the show mainly because it didn't pretend to be anything it's not, and seemed comfortable in its own shoes. ("That doesn't make any sense!" "Umm... it's magic!") That feeling has faded a bit with episodes 4 and 5, as it looks like they want to implement some drama, but we'll see. Or I will, at any rate. |

I finished watching Rideback just the other day and I had basically the same opinion as Erin, it was an interesting series but in the end it just didn't work for a couple of different reasons. That and I spent the entire show going (I think I got this right) "wait, so you're telling me that the US took other the entire world (for no apparent reason) and then terrorists took over them so they've now taken over the world and have a big enough organization to keep it under control? Yeaaaaaah."
As for Dark Rabbit, I accidentally clicked on it on CR at one point and didn't watch more than a minute or two and I'm glad that I didn't miss much. |

Whew, I'm just looking at 'dem shelves! I was very pleased to see Please Save My Earth on it, both manga and the OVA, that's not a very common series to have (they even had 13, the royal pain to find!) For someone who's only been collecting heavily for the past two years or so, you've got some great quality in addition to your quantity (Maison Ikkoku manga was there too!). I love seeing the high quality shojo on any shelves (and if you're reading this, get the manga Banana Fish asap! And the Princes Tutu anime, unless it was already there and I happened to miss it)

I watched RideBack and I love it. Though from the review, it didn't surprise me. Last episode was a cliffhanger, too many things left to tell. If only there had been one more episode, but the animation are really well done, some of the racing parts are cool and I do love the theme songs.

The real life Crowley was an interesting character. I once had access to a library with a reprint edition of his publication "The Equinox". Among other material, he did rather catty book reviews.
Also, I am told the name "Clow Reed", from Card Captor Sakura, is based on "Crowley". How involved was the reference in Dark Rabbit? |

I should get back and watch more of the Dark Rabbit show, but I think I will wait until the BD's come out. I have too much to watch right now to get to it.
