Wow! What a great way to get people involved, I applaud you, TOKYOPOP, FUNimation, Bandai Entertainment, Dark Horse Comics, Urban Vision, Animerica, and The Right Stuf International. Anime smile Though, one thing that confuses me, does this mean that Full Moon o Sagashite has been liscensed? It's definately a favorite series of mine and I can't for it's American release.

I was actually thinking of volunteering at the local hospital part-time recently. Surprised Unfortunately, none of the childrens hospitals on the list are close enough for me to visit them(can't drive yetT.T) but once I get my license, I'll be glad to go visit some kids. Who knows, maybe I'll get a new opponent in Soul Calibur II out of it. Twisted Evil

Oi, the closet to me is Los Angeles and I live like an hour or two away, and that's driving distance. I can't even drive yet! I curse Redlands for not having a children's hospital!

I still think it's only a matter of time... especially once you use something like this as a basis for what I hope will be a huge project. If the project gets big enough, the contributing companies will probably take a closer look and see that it's well within their best interests (and profitability no less) to license and distribute the series.

I'm surpised that FMWS hasn't been licenced yet. Really suprised.

In either case, if you can't drive, ask your parents to take you. Remember, not only is volunteering good for you, if you're in High School you can use it towards your Community Service Hours (where applicable).
Not to mention it's great fun. Sometimes sad, but you meet good people who make good friends.

And why not Kids with Cancer?

You have to pick something, we just picked this. There are a couple reasons (it's something we feel that a typical anime fan could spend one day doing and actually make a difference), but there were lots of charities that would have been similar. Just had to pick one, so we picked that one.

There is no special connection between the anime Industry and kids with cancer. Nor is there any connection between ANN and kids with cancer.

We thought it might be good to see if we could do some sort of community service. The idea was originally proposed by Jonathan (Miagi), and we thought that if we could use ANN to bring some good to the world, without any adverse affect on ANN, then that would be great (as opposed to me just turning around and donating a years earnings to charity, which would do lots of good but cripple the website).

I suppose the companies probably felt similarly.

Jonathan put a lot of time into this project.

It's initiative to get people involved in the community. Some folks just need a reason (sad as it is) to go out and do something.
Of course, once they start, hopefully they'll find heart in it, and continue volunteering.

And for the companies, it's great PR. And it's very generous of them to donate to the cause. And people remember those things. Shine in a good light, I guess one could say.

As for why cancer? It is one of the leading causes of death amoung children.
Source: Medicine Plus, National Cancer Institute, Heathgoods (references very nice here), ect. (note: This was quick google search. Some may be slightly outdated)

AIDS usually occurs in older (21+) people, and counter-terrorists... well, that's kinda silly. Kids would benefit more than the older folks. ^^;

I dunno. It's personal opinion here. Take it or leave it.

edit: BTW- Read the first letter. It was short, but very sweet. :)

When volunteering is there anything that we need to do to officially be part of the project, or is it all independent with no official affiliation?

How are things going with the New Future charity project? It would be great to hear some of the experiences of those involved.

This project is going to need a re-think early next year. Originally it was planned with the idea that people would just go in, and then e-mail us.

Unfortunately, we didn't receive very many e-mails and at least one of the ones we received was clearly a fake.

We'll probably arrange something so that we work a bit more closely with specified hospitals.

One of the first places we'd contact would of course be the City of Hope in California.
