This year's 39th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday that both the One Piece and Dragon Ball Super television anime series will get one-hour specials in October. The one-hour special for One Piece will air on Sunday, October 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. The one-hour special for Dragon Ball Super will air one week later on October 8 at the same time. Dragon Ball Super and One Piece usually air back-to-back on Sundays from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Each one-hour special will feature two episodes of the television series.
The issue is also revealing an illustrated visual featuring Goku and Luffy to commemorate the announcement, but the specials aren't listed as crossover specials. A collaborative promotional video will debut on One Piece's official website by Monday.
One Piece is also getting the two-hour "Episode of East Blue" (One Piece Episode of East Blue: Luffy to 4-nin no Nakama no Daibōken) special (pictured at right) that will air on August 26 from 9:00 p.m to 11:10 p.m. Funimation will stream the special starting on August 28 in the United States and Canada. The special will be a completely new work, featuring reanimated scenes from the beginning of the series through when the crew enters the Grand Line.
