Variety reported on Wednesday that new data from Ampere Analysis has revealed that 42% of internet users in India identify as anime viewers. The numbers for other countries in the Asia Pacific were 59% in the Philippines, 50% in Indonesia, and 43% in Singapore.

Ampere Analysis' data also shows that 74% of the "anime supply" in India is dominated by global streaming platforms. The data projects that the subscription streaming market in the Asia Pacific is likely to grow from US$24 billion in 2024 to US$31 billion by 2030, with anime being a central driver in its expansion. Anime, hence remains an underleveraged avenue of growth for local and regional streaming services, the study concluded.

Major multinational-owned streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar boast large anime catalogs in India.

The merger of Reliance Industries Limited and The Walt Disney Company's media assets combined Reliance's JioCinema streaming service with Disney+ Hotstar, and launched the JioHotstar streaming service on February 14. The service hosts some recent releases licensed by Muse Asia as well as several older titles that include 18 seasons of the Pokémon anime.

Anime Times launched in India in December 2023 and is available as an add-on subscription with Amazon Prime Video.

Crunchyroll announced its first slate of Hindi and Indian English dubs in November 2022 as it introduced subscription tiers for Indian audiences. It established its second Indian office at Knowledge City in Hyderabad in March 2024.
