The playwright character, William, is most likely named for William Shakespeare, who penned the play “Romeo and Juliet,” upon which this anime is loosely based. He also often quotes lines from Shakespeare's plays, and his own plays share the names and plots of Shakespeare's as well.
There are characters with names not from the original play, however, these character names can be found in other Shakespeare plays.
There are several Shakespeare plays that involve females cross-dressing.
The first 3 episodes the credits show the first name of Shakespeare misspelled as "Whillian".
In episode 1 when Juliet goes to the Rose Ball uninvited, this parallels the original play when Romeo and his friends crash the Capulet's party. The uninvited guest role is reversed but in both cases this is where they are both smitten with each other.
In episode 7, the English version of the opening song, "You Raise Me Up" sung by Lena Park plays around 19:00.
"Inori ~You Raise Me Up~", the Opening Theme Song, is actually a japanese version of "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban. In fact, in Episode 07, the Chorus and part of the lyrics sung are the original ones.
In Episode 10, at 20:00, Juliet says a line directly from the original play: "O Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?".
In episode 18, Juliet and Emilia rehearse lines from Willy's play that resemble the actual text of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
