Trivia:

Touda, one of Tsuzuki's twelve Shikigamis, means dancing serpent. It refers loosely to a snake-like string puppet, used in Japanese puppet plays. It suggests that the character of Touda is such that he would follow his master's orders stubbornly, like a puppet, and would not consider anything else.

Yami no Matsuei was never completed. Due to a disagreement with the publisher the mangaka did not release anymore of the series past book 11. It is considered on hiatus, but it is possible it will never return to print.

Vol. 5 has the author commenting on the various actors used for the radio drama of the manga available on import CD. Most of them apparently made it to play the same anime roles, with the exception of Tsuzuki, who is played by Kosuke Okano on the radio version and Shinichiro Miki in the anime as well as Hisoka, who is played by Fujiko Takimoto in the drama and Mayumi Asano in the anime.

Volume 3 of the English language version of "Descendants of Darkness" was edited to remove one part of a risque panel by the publisher Viz Media.

In the beginning of the English language version of "Descendants of Darkness", the character "Seichiro Tatsumi" was mistranslated as "Ichiro Tatsumi".

In volume 1 of Descendants of Darkness, Muraki and Tsuzuki meet for the first time, Muraki, already knowing that Tsuzuki is a shinigami, and already targeting him. However, in volume 3, Muraki says to Tsuzuki "Do you remember that night we first met?" and there is a brief flashback in which Muraki and Tsuzuki are ontop a building, and Muraki decides to force himself on Tsuzuki. But in volume 1, it is believed that that was their first meeting.

The characters Yuma and Saya are manga only characters. They never appear in the anime.
