Moyashimon Bath Set to Be Sold in Japan

Super-deformed A. oryzae body wash mitt, microbe-shaped sponge toys included

The Japanese publisher Kodansha will offer an Ofuro Set (Bath Set) inspired by Masayuki Ishikawa's Moyashimon manga on October 24. The set will include a body wash mitt decorated with the popular A. oryzae fungus character, various microbe-shaped sponge toys, and two Ishikawa-illustrated posters that can be put in the bathtub. One of the posters has an A3-sized map of Japan that highlights the various foods made famous in each area of the country. The other poster lists words in different languages of the world.

The manga revolves around an agricultural university freshman who can see and communicate with microorganisms — as super-deformed characters. A. oryzae is the fungus that ferments soybeans into miso seasoning and rice into sake, among other benefits.

Del Rey Manga published the manga in North America, but stopped before Kodansha USA took over its titles last year. Funimation and DramaFever.com streamed the live-action television version, and a television anime version also aired in Japan.

The Bath Set will cost 1,980 yen (about US$25.80).
