Legendary manga creator Gō Nagai's magical girl Cutie Honey is adding some extra sweetness to a Saga-based brewery's sake.

Mitsutake Brewery has been in operation since in 1688, but this will be the first time its honey plum wine will feature Nagai's transforming heroine. The brewery began shipping the sake out on Friday, August 3, also known as "Honey Day" in Japan. The bottle's label art was drawn by illustrator Lion Matsuda (website).

Each 720ml sake bottle costs 1,390 yen (US$12.50). Mitsutake used only local plums and honey to create the drink, with no added fragrance or coloring agent.

Nagai originally published the Cutie Honey story in 1973 and it inspired multiple manga remakes, anime adaptations on television and home video, a live-action film, and a live-action television series. Seven Seas Entertainment released the manga in a hardcover omnibus as Cutie Honey: The Classic Collection.

The latest anime adaptation, Cutie Honey Universe, follows Honey Kisaragi, an amazingly humanlike and fashion conscious android with the unique ability to transform her body into a wide range of outrageous yet stylish disguises, each of which comes with its own dazzling super ability. After a run-in with a sinister secret criminal cabal organization, Panther Claw, the luscious and law-abiding Honey makes it her mission to bring them down.

HIDIVE streamed the anime series as it aired in Japan.
