Evangelion's Unit-01 Will Face the King of Kaiju at Universal Studios Japan

Godzilla is having a pretty good month. The king of kaiju is closing out his anime film trilogy, was immortalized as a constellation by NASA and earlier this summer he terrorized gamers in the virtual world. This latest wave of Godzilla events is impressive, but it's still no match to the monster's fabricated rivalry with Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Godzilla and Unit-01 first faced off as an April Fool's joke two years ago. The idea was borne from the Shin Godzilla film and the anime series' shared director: Hideaki Anno. The idea was too good to leave as a simple joke and in the last two years it has spawned cross-over concerts, figures, merchandise, and artwork that has all seemingly culminated to this very moment.
Godzilla and Unit-01 will face off during a joint attraction at the Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka next year. The exact form of the attraction is still under wraps but the gigantic pair's confrontation is scheduled to start on May 31, 2019 and run until August 25, 2019 as part of the annual "Cool Japan" attractions.
Universal Studios Japan has featured Evangelion- and Godzilla-themed rides in the past. Both Shin Godzilla and Unit-01 made appearances on separate rides last year.
