Otakon Hosts Voice Actor Katsuyuki Konishi, Studio Trigger

Trigger's Hiroki Arai, Hiromi Wakabayashi, Sushio attend event on August 8-10

The staff of Otakon announced on Tuesday and Wednesday that this year's event will host voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi and Studio Trigger staff members Hiroki Arai, Hiromi Wakabayashi, and Sushio.

Konishi had his major voice acting debut in the GaoGaiGar: King of the Braves 1997 anime series, voicing the character VolFogg. Since then, he has voiced roles in such anime as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Tengen Uzui), Gurren Lagann (Kamina), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind (Diavolo), Black Clover (Fuegoleon Vermilion), Fire Force (Takeru Noto), One Punch Man (Tanktop Master), Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (Oczy), Kill la Kill (Tsumugu Kinagase), Bleach (Keigo Asano, Shuhei Hisagi), Dai-Guard (Hirotaka Ijyuin), Ceres, Celestial Legend (Tooya), Shaman King (Amidamaru), Samurai Deeper Kyo (Kyoushirou Mibu), D.Gray-man (Komui Lee), Gundam 00 (Johann Trinity), Macross Frontier (Ozma Lee), Hetalia - Axis Powers (America; Canada), and Fairy Tail (Luxus Dreher).

Arai joined Studio Trigger in 2015 as an animator on Ninja Slayer He worked as an animation director for BNA: Brand New Animal. He has also served as an animator on SSSS.Dynazenon, SSSS.Gridman, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Gridman Universe, Delicious in Dungeon, Space Patrol Luluco, Kiznaiver, Little Witch Academia, DARLING in the FRANXX, and Promare. Arai is working on the New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT project.

Wakabayashi worked on the Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt anime at Gainax. He also worked as assistant episode director for two episodes of The IDOLM@STER anime alongside Atsushi Nishigori and many other Gainax alumni. Wakabayashi joined Studio Trigger in 2011. He was the creative producer for Kill la Kill, wrote the script for Inferno Cop, and was credited for story cooperation for the first two Little Witch Academia films. He was scriptwriter on some episodes of Space Patrol Luluco, and also directed and storyboarded the anime's opening sequence. Wakabayashi was the creative producer for Promare.

SUSHIO worked for Gainax before working at Studio Trigger. At Gainax, he served as a key animator for Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, among other titles. At Trigger, he served as the character designer and chief animation director for Kill la Kill, and the lead animator for Kiznaiver. He served as key animator for Trigger's PROMARE anime film. He also served as a key animator on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Delicious in Dungeon.

Otakon 2025 is scheduled for August 8-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The event will also host voice actors Nobutoshi Canna, Ryōko Shiraishi, Ayana Taketatsu, Kanna Nakamura, Taishi Murta, and Ryōta Takeuchi; Maho Film animation producer Yūki Mukai; manga artists Chika Mizube, Minoji Kurata, and Sai Naekawa; manga editor Takumi Kamemaru; illustrator CHRIS; character designer and animation director Hidenori Matsubara; author and composer Taketeru Sunamori; J-pop singer MindaRyn; A-1 Pictures' director Shōtarō Kitamura and production manager Yūtarō Itō; and the creative team behind the Too Many Losing Heroines! light novels.

Last year's event took place in August 2024 and reached 46,000 attendants, setting a new record.
