Ohio area television news provider News Net 5 has run a story about pornography in Anime which also be viewed on their website.

The report focus on the availability of Anime pornographic material (Hentai) at video stores. The 16 year old son of one of the TV station's employees if featured entering a mainstream video store, wearing a hidden camera, and successfully purchasing an adult Anime title which is clearly marked "Graphic Adult content, not intended for minors".

With Pokémon animation and music plays in the background But NewsChannel5's Ted Hart reports "We're gradually becoming accustomed to the characters' large eyes, exaggerated hairstyles, the Japanese-style characters and storytelling techniques," and goes on to state "But a lot of what is available in the video stores is a long way from what you see on TV."

The essential theme of this report is that children can go from watching "kiddy" shows like Pokémon on TV to renting Hentai in video stores. The report also mentions that parents should be aware of the hidden dangers of Anime.

What is disconcerting about this style or reporting, is that although the statements are true, they are extremely one sided. Sixteen year old children have long been able to rent/buy non-anime related pornographic material in video stores and at magazine shops. Nonetheless, the report focuses entirely on the possibilities of children buying Hentai, and suggests indirectly that they will, presenting the issue as an Anime only issue, not the larger, more broad problem that it is.

NewsNet5 has made a real media encoding of the report, which can be seen here.
