Nobuhiro Watsuki Works on Shinsengumi Game

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Kenshin Creator to Create Character Designs

The Japanese Shonen Jump announces that Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki has provided Sega's Red Entertainment division with character designs for an upcoming 3D fighter that the company will release in December.

The game, Shinsengumi Gunrou-den, takes place in the late Edo period of Japanese history, at roughly the same time as the Kenshin storyline, and revolves around similar events in Japan's history. Players in this swordfighting-action-game will take on the role of Shinsengumi commander Okita Soushi and will seek to protect the capital city from a rebel group that seeks to return power to the emperor. Okita Soushi is a real historical figure, and is joined in the game by other historical members of the Shinsengumi such as Saitou Hajime, Kondou Isao, and Tsujikata toshizou.

Correction (2004-09-10): The above names should read "Kondo Isami and Hijikata toshizou." ANN regrets this error and would like to thank Andrew Sutton for pointing it out.
