Toki wo Kakeru Shojo wins Animation Award in 61st Annual Mainichi Film Contest

Adding to an already impressive list of awards and critical acclaim, Toki wo Kakeru Shōjo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and Tekkon Kinkreet have won the two awards for Animation in the 61st Annual Mainichi Film Contest. Awards will be handed out at an Award Ceremony on February 6th at the Cerulean Tower Hotel in Shibuya.

TokiKake received the Animation Award, which is awarded to the anime that judges decide is the most entertaining. Tekkon Kinkreet received the Ôfuji Noburô Award, named after one of the pioneers of the Animation industry in Japan. The Ôfuji Noburô Award is given to the film that judges deem the most artistic and innovative.

While no anime films were honored in the other categories of the contest, it should be noted that the live-action film based on the Death Note manga won the Tsutaya Movie Fan Award for Best Japanese Film. The Tsutaya Award is awarded based on votes from the public.
