Yen Press Parent Company Buys French Manga Publisher

Editions Pika third largest manga publisher in France

Hachette Livre, the French parent company of Hatchette Book Group USA, and subsidiary of Lagardère, announced today that it is acquiring PIKA, Frances third largest manga publisher.

With a 600-title catalog, Pika controls 12% of the French manga market, the third largest manga market in the world after Japan and the USA (according to JETRO, which places the combined European market as much larger than America).

In North America, Hatchette recently launched manga imprint Yen Press. Yen Press's first manga releases will be four Square Enix titles, Spiral - Suiri no Kizuna, Black God, Zombie-Loan and Alice on Deadlines, all due out this fall.
