5cm per Second, Summer Days with Coo up for Best Animated Feature

The nominations for the 2007 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, which are organized jointly by UNESCO, CNN International, and the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, have been announced. 5cm per Second, Makoto Shinkai's look at a young man's relationships at three different points in his life, and Keiichi Hara's Summer Days with Coo, about a fourth grader who discovers and befriends a creature from Japanese mythology, have both been nominated to compete for the Best Animated Feature Film award. No other Japanese film or individual received a nomination in any category.

The award ceremony will be held on November 13 in Australia. Prior to that date, CNN International will produce a documentary film to examine the highlights of this year in Asian cinema. It is set to air on November 10. After the awards, on November 17, a second television program will profile the nominated and winning films.

The goal of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards is to promote cinema from the entire Asian continent, from Lebanon to Japan, to a worldwide audience, and to honor Asian films that best reflect their cultural origins.
