First Live-Action Death Note's English Trailer Posted

posted on by Egan Loo
North American release planned for later this year

The website for Starlog's Fangoria entertainment magazine has posted Viz Pictures' English trailer for the first live-action Death Note suspense film. While the trailer is dubbed in English, the film itself will be released in Japanese with English subtitles in North America. Tatsuya Fujiwara stars as a teenager who uses a supernatural notebook to exact self-righteous justice through death, and Ken'ichi Matsuyama plays the genius detective who tracks him down. The trailer highlights the theme song "Dani California" from the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Viz Pictures has been screening this film and its companion piece, Death Note: The Last Name, in festivals and selected theaters since the company announced announced their licenses in September. A DVD release is planned for later this year. Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata created the manga that inspired both films, and Viz Media just finished releasing the entire manga run in North America. A third live-action movie, L change the WorLd, opened in Japan last month with Matsuyama in the lead role.
