Live-Action Neko Rahmen Taishō Film Based on Manga
posted on by Egan Loo
Neko Rahmen, Kenji Sonishi's four-panel comedy manga that runs in Mag Garden's Monthly Comic Blade magazine, will be adapted into a live-action film called Neko Rahmen Taishō (General Neko Rahmen). The announcement was made in the June issue (released on April 30) of Comic Blade and on the official blog. The story centers on a cat that happens to run a ramen shop. Tornado Film will release it in Japanese theaters this fall. Minoru Kawasaki (live action Silent Möbius, Calamari Wrestler, Everyone But Japan Sinks) is directing the project.
The two volumes of the manga have so far sold 150,000 copies. An anime television special ran in Japan in December of 2006, and a later television series premiered last June. Vuze, a company founded by some of the developers of the third-party BitTorrent client Azureus, is offering English-subtitled episodes of the television anime series in free, official downloads.
