posted on by Egan Loo
This year's 23rd issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine will announce on Friday that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit director Kenji Kamiyama is creating and directing an anime called Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) for a television premiere in April 2009. Chika Umino, the creator of Honey and Clover and Young Animal's ongoing March comes in like a lion manga, is creating the original character designs for the anime. The anime will premiere in Fuji TV's late-night Noitamina timeslot. The Nodame Cantabile: Paris romantic comedy sequel is currently enjoying high ratings in the timeslot, and Osamu Dezaki's Genji Monogatari Sennenki Genji (The Tale of Genji: A Millennium-Old Journal: Genji) adaptation of a classic Japanese novel will take over the timeslot in January.

Update: The Japanese title, Higashi no Eden, is the reverse of the Japanese title for John Steinbeck's classic American novel, East of Eden (Eden no Higashi).
Update 2: A preview website (pictured at right) has now opened for this anime series. The site confirms that Production I.G is producing the animation.
