Report: Kodansha Lets Tokyopop Germany's Licenses Expire

posted on by Egan Loo
German unit carried Beck, Cromartie, School Rumble, Perfect Girl, Hell Girl

According to reports by users on Tokyopop Germany's official forum, the company's latest newsletter said that Kodansha has let its manga licenses with Tokyopop Germany expire. That means that Tokyopop Germany has to end its run of Beck, Cromartie High School, School Rumble, Perfect Girl (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge or The Wallflower), and Hell Girl. According to an excerpt from the newsletter, Tokyopop Germany said that the license expiration had nothing to do with its business relationship with Kodansha up to now, and it did everything it could to prevent this action.

There is no indication that this development will affect Kodansha's licenses with Tokyopop in North America. Of Tokyopop Germany's five Kodansha titles, only Beck was published by Tokyopop in North America.
