California's Anaheim Film Fest to Show Summer Wars

Mamoru Hosoda's award-winning film to run on October 13 & 16

Funimation announced via its Twitter account that Mamoru Hosoda's award-winning film Summer Wars will be a part of the official selection of the inaugural Anaheim International Film Festival, which will be held in Southern California October 13-17.

Summer Wars follows Kenji Koiso, a math genius and timid 11th-grader who is asked by his secret crush Natsuki to come with her to her family's home for a summer job. Natsuki's family, the Jinnouchi clan, dates back to the Muromachi era, and they've all come together to celebrate the 90th birthday of Sakae, the spunky matriarch of the family. After realizing that his summer job is to pretend to be engaged to Natsuki and dance with her at the birthday celebration, Kenji attempts to keep up with the act. However after receiving a strange math problem that he can't resist solving, the solution to the equation causes a hijacking of the social networking site through which most of the world's social and business traffic flows.

At Otakon 2010 in July, Funimation announced that it will be releasing the film in theaters in late 2010. The distributor will then release the film on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2011.
