"Superflat: New Pop Culture" to follow controversial Versailles exhibit

According to the Europa Press, superflat artist Takashi Murakami will exhibit at the Centro Cultural Moncloa in Madrid, Spain from November 17 to January 9, 2011. The exhibit will be titled "Superflat: New Pop Culture."

Murakami is currently exhibiting in the Chateau of Versailles in France, a showing which has caused controversy for the artist due to the sexual nature of some of his past works. Murakami also created an anime for the exhibit titled "Six Hearts Princess."

Murakami has acknowledged the influence of anime, manga, and otaku culture on his art, and he himself has directed several anime projects. Time magazine named Murakami as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2008. Murakami has worked with Luis Vuitton to design a print for its handbag lines, and with rapper Kanye West to design an album cover and animate a music video. In 2009, Murakami created a music video titled "Akihabara Majokko Princess," directed by Terminator Salvation director MCG and starring actress Kirsten Dunst.
