The Blu-ray Disc Box for the Kara no Kyoukai - the Garden of sinners film series sold 25,000 sets to rank #2 on Oricon's overall Blu-ray chart for the January 31-February 6 week. It also topped the weekly anime Blu-ray chart. The Japanese release has English subtitles and a suggested retail price of 52,500 yen (about US$640), although it is available with discounts from many retailers.
Kinoko Nasu's original novels center around Shiki Ryougi, an amnesiac girl who has the ability to see the lines of mortality on living beings. She works for a small independent agency to solve supernatural and horrific mysteries.
Between the first film's opening in December of 2007 and the seventh film's opening in August of 2009, the film series was seen in theaters about 262,000 times. The film series' seven chapters also sold over 750,000 copies on DVD.
Besides the seven theatrical chapters and the first release of a bonus Final Chapter, the Blu-ray Disc Box features the 60-minute edited Remix - Gate of Seventh Heaven- compilation of the first six films and the 50-minute Retracing All Seven Chapters of The Garden of Sinners television special. It also has a Visual Chronicle Book with staff interviews, every key visual from the franchise, illustrations from each movie, and artwork for DVD packages.
On Tuesday, Aniplex of America began selling the same box along with a separate booklet with English translations of the text in the Visual Chronicle Book.
