Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin Puts 3rd Book at #1
posted on by Egan Loo
The sixth volume of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) manga sold 285,829 copies to top Oricon's comic ranking chart in Japan for the December 5-11 week. It is the third volume in the series to reach #1, after the third and fourth volumes did so last December and this past April.
The manga depicts the battles between humans and the man-eating giants who now rule the world. Isayama launched Attack on Titan in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. The manga has become a sleeper hit, selling over 5.5 million copies within the past year. Kodansha USA licensed the manga for North America.
Kodansha confirmed this year that a film adaptation will open in Japan in fall of 2013 or later. Director Tetsuya Nakashima (Kamikaze Girls, Confessions, Paco and the Magical Picture Book) will begin shooting the live-action film during or after next spring's Golden Week holidays.
