Gainax Outlines Possible Sadon-Desu Anime

Company collecting funds for proposed adaptation of tea ceremony club manga

Anime studio Gainax revealed at its booth at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) that it has plans to create an anime adaptation of the Sadon-Desu collaboration manga between Gainax's Nowa and manga creator Kyo Hatsuki (Love Junkie). (The sports phrase "sudden death" is pronounced the same way in Japanese, but written in katakana characters as opposed to the manga title's hiragana). Gainax intends to air the anime, although Gainax producer Tomoko Saitō (Medaka Box) informed ANN that the project has not been green-lit yet, and is still collecting funds.

The original 4-panel manga revolves around Koume (bottom left in image to the right) who enters a private high school. She hears from her friend Sasuga (bottom right) that if she enters the tea ceremony club, she can eat snacks. They bring along their classmates Mikaeru — the kanji for her name means "angel", but is read as Michael — (top right) and Momiji (top left) to join the club with her. The president of the club is 11th grader Ayame (top center).

The manga launched in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in November.

Saito also clarified that although Gainax displayed a poster of its Akubi o Suru ni wa Wake ga Aru project at TAF, an anime has not been green-lit.
