Japanese media news website Bunka Tsūshin published an in-depth article on animation studio Toei's strategy and goals for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Dragon Ball Z: Kami to Kami) film. The company is aiming for a 3-billion-yen (about US$32-million) domestic box office gross.
Toei also stated that another Dragon Ball Z film was considered prior, but it was only after the success of Eiichiro Oda's involvement with One Piece Film Z that the company decided to move forward with another Dragon Ball Z film.
Akira Toriyama has been deeply involved in the film's story and designs from the early screenwriting stages. Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun) is directing at Toei off a script by Yūsuke Watanabe (live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy, Gantz, Bloody Monday, Future Diary).
The film will open in Japan on March 30 with a six-week theater screening planned to last into Japan's Golden Week holidays next month.
