Sentai Filmworks Hosts Makoto Shinkai & His Latest Film at AX

North American anime licensing company Sentai Filmworks announced on Friday that it will host auteur director Makoto Shinkai as a Special Guest of Honor at Anime Expo in Los Angeles next month. In addition, Sentai Filmworks will host the English-language premiere of Shinkai's latest anime film, The Garden of Words, at the convention.
The Garden of Words begins in June during Japan's rainy season. A shoemaker-in-training named Takao is sketching shoes in a Japanese-style garden when he meets a mysterious older woman. From that first encounter, the two continue meeting and deepening their relationship.
The 46-minute film opened in Japan on May 31, after Shinkai hosted its world premiere at Australia's Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF) the month before. Sentai Filmworks will release the film digitally with a release on bilingual Blu-ray Disc and DVD to follow later this year.
Shinkai started creating his own anime titles almost single-handedly, being responsible for the writing, directing, and even voice-acting. Shinkai's other works include She and Her Cat, Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second, and Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below.
Shinkai will appear at Anime Expo on July 6 and July 7, and The Garden of Words' English premiere will take place on July 6 at 3:00 p.m. in Video Room 1.
