Glass Mask Gag Anime Film's Trailer Streamed

Spy movie parody of Suzue Miuchi's romance series opening June 22

Japanese website Cinema Today began streaming a trailer for Glass no Kamen Desu ga the Movie Onna Spy no Koi! Murasaki no Bara wa Kiken na Kaori!? (It's Glass Mask But… the Movie: Female Spy's Love! The Purple Rose Has a Dangerous Scent!?) on Wednesday. The film, which is produced by Flash anime studio DLE, is based off of the gag anime Glass no Kamen Desu ga, which parodies Suzue Miuchi's romance manga series. The trailer features the theme song "Kamen no Utage" by Takamiy.

The film opens in Japan on June 22.

The original manga follows an aspiring actress and the intrigue behind the scenes in the world of stage theater. In the film, the familiar characters of the manga now operate as spies. In their seemingly normal lives, Maya delivers ramen, Ayumi poses as a fashion model, and Tsukikage teaches yoga. However, when they receive the order from a mysterious figure, they spring into action as the international spy trio "Crimson Goddesses."

Instead of wielding pistols or fighting with martial arts, their weapon of choice is "super acting." For this adventure, the trio takes on the international crime syndicate On-Dine to recover the stolen Diamond Mask treasure.

The manga inspired a 1984 television anime series and a 2005-2006 anime remake, as well two live-action television series. There was also a three-part video series that started in 1998. Miuchi acknowledged in 2009 that the time has come to bring the manga to an end "soon." Miuchi launched the series in 1975, and Hakusensha published the manga's 50th volume in May.

DLE also produced Lupin Shanshei, the parody anime version of another classic manga (Lupin III).
