Ryo Ikuemi's shōjo romance manga follows woman coping with loss of childhood friend

Production company TOHO Films unveiled the teaser trailer and poster visual for the live-action film adaptation of Ryo Ikuemi's Kiyoku Yawaku manga on Thursday. The story follows the relationships of Kanna Seto (Masami Nagasawa), a woman still consumed by the loss of her childhood friend Haruta (Kengo Kōra) in a traffic accident. Over the course of the film, Seto grows up from a high school girl into an adult woman; Nagasawa commented on the difficulty on playing a 15-year-old.

The cast includes Nagasawa (Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World, Gaku, Moteki, From Up On Poppy Hill) as Kanna, Masaki Okada (Otomen, Space Brothers, Confessions) as Roku Akazawa, Aoi Nakamura (Kimi to Boku, Beck, Q.E.D., Ōoku: The Inner Chambers) as Toshikuni Mayama, and Kora (Solanin). Takehiko Shinjō (Boku no Hatsukoi o Kimi ni Sasagu, Paradise Kiss) is directing the film.

Ikuemi serialized the manga in Shueisha's Cookie magazine from 2004 to 2010, and it won the Kodansha Manga Award for Best Shōjo Manga in 2009. The series is actually an omnibus series of story arcs; the film is adapting the Kanna arc.

The film will open in theaters in Japan on October 26.
