Takuma Morishige's comedy of girl who sits next to intricate distraction maker

The November issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine is announcing on Friday that Kana Hanazawa and Hiro Shimono will star in the upcoming anime adaptation of Takuma Morishige's Tonari no Seki-kun comedy manga.

Hanazawa will play Yokoi

Shimono will play the title character Seki-kun

The original manga revolves around a girl named Yokoi who sits next to a boy only known as “Seki-kun.” During class, Seki-kun continues to not pay attention and instead creates amazingly throrough little distractions, such as a detailed golf course with the course's hole being a dent in his desk, or an entire dramatic war being played out by paper shogi (Japanese chess) pieces.

Yuji Mutoh (Crayon Shin-chan films, Green Green) is directing the series at Shin-Ei Animation (The Knight in the Area, Doraemon films). Masae Ōtake (Kuromajyo-san ga Tōru!!) is designing the characters.

Morishige began his manga in Comic Flapper in 2010. The manga was nominated in the 5th Manga Taisho Awards last year. A set of live-action commercials ran in Japanese bookstores and trains in 2011.

The television anime will premiere in January, and the fifth volume of the manga will bundle an anime DVD on January 4.
