Attack on Titan Smartphone App to Have Side Stories

posted on by Emma Hanashiro
New character will be featured every month

The "Attack on Titan for au Smart Pass" smartphone app launched on Monday, and includes side stories on characters from Hajime Isayama's manga series. Every month, the app will focus on one character and will have a fictional interview with that character. Furthermore, every week, there will be chance conversation between two characters as they "take shelter from the rain." This month features Mikasa.

The app also contains an Attack on Titan database connected to the side stories. Once a character makes an appearance in a side story, the character's data will be added. Ultimately, the database will include over 60 items.

The "Attack on Titan for au Smart Pass" is free, though it requires member registration.

The Attack on Titan manga volumes are currently best sellers in North America, with four books ranked on the top 20 graphic novels as of January. North American manga publisher Kodansha Comics revealed at its New York Comic Con panel that the manga has 500,000 copies in print in English as of October 2013. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in North America on a monthly basis until it is caught up with the Japanese releases. Last fall, Nielsen BookScan's list of the top 20 graphic novels in American bookstores had more books of Attack on Titan manga than any other series in the United States. The first season of the anime series ended last September.
