Legendary president: 1st goal was to re-establish property "in a Tiffany way"

The entertainment trade news source Variety reported on Sunday that Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are "moving forward" with a sequel to Gareth Edwards' Godzilla remake film. Legendary president and chief creative officer Jon Jashni told Variety, “Our initial goal was to re-brand and re-establish the property in a Tiffany way. Now, we're trying to take in all of the results of the weekend.”

The remake pulled in US$38.5 million on Friday, the largest opening day earnings in the year so far. Box Office Mojo is estimating a weekend gross of US$93,205,000 in the U.S. and an additional US$103 million worldwide for a total weekend gross of US$196,205,000. The film has an estimated production budget of US$160 million.
