posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The soundtrack for Walt Disney's animated film Frozen has ranked #1 in Japan for three straight weeks. Frozen has sold 109,000 copies in the most recent week for a new total of 575,000 copies. The last animated film's soundtrack to rank #1 for three straight weeks was the Symphonic Poem: Galaxy Express 999 record in 1979 (it held the #1 spot for eight weeks). The last film soundtrack, live-action or animated, to remain at #1 for three weeks was Flash Dance in 1983 (it held the spot for 10 weeks).

The soundtrack already topped 1978's Farewell Space Battleship Yamato as the animated movie soundtrack that has sold the most copies ever in Japan. Farewell Space Battleship Yamato's soundtrack sold 386,000 copies. while Frozen sold 466,000 copies in two weeks.

Frozen has also topped Ponyo and Avatar at the Japanese box office. Frozen won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film over Miyazaki and Ghibli's The Wind Rises this year. Here is Frozen's pivotal (and Oscar-winning) song "Let It Go," as sung by Takako Matsu as Elsa in the Japanese dub:
