1st Digimon tri. Earns 229 Million Yen in 10 Theaters, Continues Run

Blu-ray/DVD shipped on December 18; 2nd film slated for March

The first Digimon Adventure tri. film has sold 146,671 tickets in just 10 theaters for 229 million yen (about US$1.95 million) as of January 4. The film opened for a limited three-week run on November 21. However, due to the unexpected response from moviegoers, the film has continued to play.

The film sold 36,000 tickets for 59 million yen (about US$480,000) in its first two days. It had sold 139,408 tickets for a total of 218 million yen (about US$1.80 million) by December 16.

The regular retail release of the Blu-ray Disc and DVD already shipped on December 18.

The second film will open in Japan on March 12, and its Blu-ray Disc and DVD will debut at retailers on April 2.

Crunchyroll is streaming the the first film as four separate episodes for users in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America. Crunchyroll will stream the "next chapter" of the series in winter 2016.
