Newest game in Dissidia series arrives this year for iOS, Android

Square Enix opened a website on Saturday to announce the Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia smartphone game. Square Enix is also streaming a teaser trailer for the game.

The game's current character roster includes: Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy), Firion (Final Fantasy II), Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III), Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV), Bartz Klauser (Final Fantasy V), Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI), Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII), Seifer Almasy (Final Fantasy VIII), Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX), Yuna (Final Fantasy X), Vaan (Final Fantasy XII), Hope Estheim (Final Fantasy XIII), Y'shtola (Final Fantasy XIV), and Rem Tokimiya (Final Fantasy Type-0). The site lists one more unannounced character from Final Fantasy XI.

Square Enix is running a pre-registration campaign for the game where the more people pre-register for the game, the more free items those who pre-register will receive when the game arrives.

The game will arrive this year in Japan and will be free to play, but in-game items will cost extra.

Square Enix released Dissidia Final Fantasy, a PlayStation Portable fighting game featuring Final Fantasy heroes and villains, in 2008 in Japan, and in 2009 in other parts of the world. The company then released the Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy sequel in 2011 for the PSP with new characters, stages, and story.

Square Enix then partnered with Koei Tecmo Games' Team Ninja (Dead or Alive series) to develop the Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade game, which launched in Japan in November 2015.
