J-Novel Club Licenses In Another World With My Smartphone Novel

posted on by Anita Tai
1st part now available digitally

The digital publishing company J-Novel Club announced on Wednesday that it has licensed Patora Fuyuhara's In Another World With My Smartphone (Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni.) light novel series. The beginning of the series is now available on J-Novel Club's website, with new installments planned for weekly release. J-Novel Club plans to eventually release the novels as e-books: volume one is slated for March 23, volume two for May 3, volume three for June 14, and volume four for July 26.

J-Novel Club also announced that it will unveil another new licensed title in a Reddit AMA on February 18.

Fuyuhara first launched the In Another World With My Smarthone series in 2013 on the Shōsetsu-ka ni Narou ("Let's Be Novelists") website, and Hobby Japan's Novels label published the first volume with illustrations by Eiji Usatsuka in 2015. Hobby Japan published the seventh volume on November 24.

J-Novel Club describes the story:

After a freak accident involving some lightning winds up zapping him dead, 15-year-old Mochizuki Touya wakes up to find himself face-to-face with God. “I am afraid to say that I have made a bit of a blunder...” laments the old coot. But all is not lost! God says that he can reincarnate Touya into a world of fantasy, and as a bonus, he gets to bring his smartphone along with! So begins Touya's adventure in a new, anachronistic pseudo-medieval world. Friends! Laughs! Tears! Inexplicable Deus ex Machina! He sets off on a journey full of wonder as he absentmindedly travels from place to place, following whatever goal catches his fancy. The curtains lift on an epic tale of swords, sorcery, and smartphone apps!

J-Novel Club launched in October of last year, and is publishing titles from Hobby Japan and OVERLAP. Membership to the service costs US$4.95 a month or US$54 a year, and gives subscribers access to a new chapter a week for all its series. Subscribers also get access to a member-only forum. Premium Membership gives subscribers a free finalized e-book each month in addition to the benefits of the regular membership, and costs US$10.95 each month or US$120 for a year. Seven Seas Entertainment plans to release some of titles inprint, starting with Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash and Occultic;Nine.

The first part of the first novel is available now for free. Subsequent parts require a membership.
