Event to take place from August 25-27 in Santa Clara

Crunchyroll announced that it will host Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir at this year's Crunchyroll Expo event. Weir will participate in a discussion on the Yuri!!! on Ice anime and hold at least one autograph session.

Weir commented in Crunchyroll's announcement:

I am a new convert to anime because of the brilliance that is Yuri!!! on Ice and I am so looking forward to meeting with other fans and getting some inspiration from the fabulous world of anime! Now, I just have to figure out what to wear…

Crunchyroll previously streamed a video of Weir discussing his reactions to the Yuri!!! on Ice.

Weir participated in the 2006 and 2010 Olympic games and won a World bronze medal in 2008.

Yuri!!! on Ice depicts the story of struggling figure skater named Yuri. The anime premiered in Japan in October, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. Funimation also streamed an English broadcast dub. A brand-new film for the franchise has been green-lit.

Crunchyroll announced its plan to have its own convention after reaching 1 million subscribers in February. Crunchyroll Expo will be held on August 25-27 at Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California. Other announced guests include illustrator Yoshitaka Amano and animator Hiroshi Shimizu.
