Cute High Earth Defense Club Franchise Gets New TV Anime Series

A new television anime series in the Cute High Earth Defense Club (Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu) franchise has been green-lit under the title Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu Happy Kiss! (Cute High Earth Defense Club HAPPY KISS!). An official website made the announcement with a teaser visual and logo.

The visual features five mysterious, handsome boys in the same academy uniforms and similar bracelets as the main characters in the previous anime series. The website also features New Year's greeting comments from returning director Shinji Takamatsu and creator Kurari Umadani. Studio Comet, the studio behind the second anime series, is producing the new anime.

Ponycan USA describes the anime franchise's premise:

Binan is a city somewhere in Japan. The "Earth Defense Club" at Binan High School was a club that did absolutely nothing. When club members Atsushi Kinugawa and En Yufuin were chilling out while soaking in the hot tub at the bathhouse Kurotamayu, a pink beast (Wombat) suddenly appeared out of thin air. "I want to save this planet... can you please lend me your strength?" The two feel the mood has been ruined by Wombat, who talks to them in Japanese about how he wants to save Earth with the power of love. Just then, the son of the bathhouse owner Yumoto Hakone shows up, and as soon as he sees Wombat, he chases it, screaming "Let me fluff you up!"

The next day, Kinugawa and Yufuin are caught by Wombat once again at school along with the other club members Io Naruko and Ryu Zaou. Bracelets clasp onto the wrists of these four, along with Yumoto Hakone, who bumped into them after chasing after Wombat, with a command that they must save the Earth. "It's about love-making!" they hear as a bright light emanating from the bracelet envelops their entire bodies. The five transform into the "Battle Lovers," the heirs to the throne of love...

The first Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! television anime season premiered in Japan in January 2015. Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Viewster streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Ponycan USA released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc combo packs. The second television anime, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE!, premiered in Japan in July 2016. Funimation and Crunchyroll both streamed the series as it aired in Japan. An original video anime project titled Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! opened in theaters on August 26. Crunchyroll began streaming the OVA in November. The OVA had been billed in July as the "series concluding chapter."
