The story of Chika Umino's original manga follows a solitary shōgi player named Rei and his relationships with a neighboring family. He becomes acquainted with Akari, and two young girls, Hinata and Momo, who also have have a large number of cats.

Occultic;Nine is based on the first light novel series by MAGES. head Chiyomaru Shikura (Steins;Gate). The "paranormal science" story follows nine idiosyncratic individuals, linked by the "Chōjō Kagaku Kirikiri Basara" occult summary blog run by 17-year-old second-year high school student Yūta Gamon. Little incongruities that occur around these nine eventually lead to a larger, unimaginable event that may alter what is considered common sense in this world.

The series premiered in October 2016, and Aniplex of America streamed the series on Crunchyroll and Daisuki. Aniplex of America later released the series on two Blu-ray Disc sets last September and December.
