The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' D.I.C.E. Awards awarded Nintendo co-representative director and Technology Fellow Genyo Takeda a Lifetime Achievement Award last Friday.
Takeda had been instrumental as a designer in numerous points in the company's gaming history. He designed Nintendo's first arcade game EVR Race, a game that Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto called "the first video game Nintendo released." He was also a central figure in the design of the company's Nintendo 64 console, as well as the Wii console. He retired last year.
Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was also awarded Game of the Year, Adventure Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, and Outstanding Achievement in Game Design. Other games awarded for Nintendo last Friday include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Racing Game of the Year), Metroid: Samus Returns (Handheld Game of the Year), Fire Emblem Heroes (Mobile Game of the Year), and Super Mario Odyssey (Sound Design).
Square Enix, Platinum Games, and Yokō Tarō's NieR:Automata game also won Role-Playing Game of the Year.
