HIDIVE announced on Thursday that it will stream an English dubcast for the second season of the Real Girl anime. Unlike previous dubcasts, which would have one new dubbed episode a week launching several weeks after the Japanese release, the Real Girl season two dubcast will launch in four three-episode batches on the following schedule:
- Episodes 13-15 — February 14
- Episodes 16-18 — March 14
- Episodes 19-21 — April 11
- Episodes 22-24 — May 9
Each batch will debut at 18:30 UTC (1:30 p.m. EST on February 14, 2:30 p.m. EDT on March 14 and later). The stream will be available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, Central America, South America, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.
HIDIVE premiered the second anime adaptation of Mao Nanami's Real Girl (3D Kanojo) manga with English subtitles on January 8.
The new season features returning staff. Takashi Naoya (Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru) is directing the anime at Hoods Entertainment (If Her Flag Breaks, Drifters, Märchen Mädchen). Deko Akao (Flying Witch, Noragami, After the Rain) is in charge of series composition. Satomi Kurita (Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic) is designing the characters.
The first season premiered in Japan on April 3 and aired for 12 episodes. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series and HIDIVE streamed the series as it aired. HIDIVE premiered the first season with an English dub in October. The company has also licensed the second season.
The josei manga follows Hikari "Tsuttsun" Tsutsui, a high school boy who is satisfied with the virtual girls he encounters in anime and games. He does not have many friends and he lives in his own world. One day, when he is stuck on pool cleaning duty, he is approached by Iroha, a "real girl" who is showy and popular with boys.
